Mauritius Golf Federation

Dear Golfers

As you may be aware the AGM of the MGF has taken place on the 30th of January in the presence of all elected regional members. It has been our first election of the Managing Committee of the MGF and I would like to thank all the regional clubs for the smooth running of these elections. The new Managing Committee of the MGF is now constituted as follows:

                President:           Mr. Christophe Curé

                Vice-President:    Mr. Balah Chinnayya

                Treasurer:           Mr. Christian Ip

                Vice–Treasurer:   Mr. Yannick Merven

                Secretary:           Mr. Daryl Csizmadia

Ass. Secretary:    Dr. Patrick Chui Wan Cheong

Members:           Mr. Jean – Noel Lennon

                                         Mrs. Basantee Ramlackhan

                                         Mr. Ravin Chunivan

First of all, I would like to thank Roy and his committee for the tremendous work accomplished during these past 4 years. It is now our duty to continue the work on the foundation set up and drive golf to a higher level.

The first challenge of this committee will be to have all stakeholders of golf in Mauritius, i.e. golfers, sponsors… to adhere to the National Handicapping System (CONGU) that will result in a fair playing field. For that, I shall have a special request to all the golf directors to keep supporting us in our communication on the importance of a National Handicapping System.

Furthermore, as golf is getting more and more popular, the MGF will have to cater for a new type of golfers who are not members of any golf course “clubs”. This is where the development of the regional clubs shall play an important role in the development of golf on the island by enrolling these golfers and consequently to the MGF. Not to forget that our regional clubs will be competing at an International Level for the 2nd Edition of the Inter Island Inter Club de l’Ocean Indien on the 15th/18th May at Le Touessrok.

The MGF will also be hosting the All Africa Junior Golf Challenge on the 29th April to the 3rd May with the support of the R&A, the African Golf Confederation and the Ministry of Youth & Sports. You are all invited to come and witness the best junior golfers of the continent.

The new committee will be meeting in the coming days and our yearly program of events shall follow shortly as well as the program of our mandate.

Last, I would like to reassure all golfers of our commitment to the SPORT and wish you all a wonderful golfic year.

Yours in Golf

Christophe
